Rally-O Classes start November 7 at 7:30
|

A newer AKC competition and a class offered at Hollowell is
Rally-Obedience or Rally-O. This is a fun class in which a
team made up of a dog and a handler work through a course
which may be set up differently each time you participate.
You and your dog should complete Basic Obedience and earn
the AKC CGC title before taking the Rally-O class.
It has been said that when entering competition, Rally-O is an
excellent place to begin because you can give your dog more
encouragement on the Rally-O course than you can in the
Obedience Rings. As in obedience and agility, AKC offers
Rally titles at three levels. Importantly, dogs do not have to
be purebred or AKC registered to compete in Rally-O!
The Rally-O course can have 10 to 20 stations. A sign at each
station tells the handler/dog team what must be done at the
station. Once the judge gives the command "forward," the
dog and handler complete the course on their own without
further commands from the judge. You cannot use treats or
toys in the ring, but may do anything else to encourage your
dog at the novice and advanced levels except physically
touch them or make corrections with the leash.
Encouragement is allowed at the Excellent level but you
cannot pat your legs or clap your hands as you can do in
Rally-O novice and advanced classes.
Signs instruct teams to go fast or slow, to halt (dog must sit at
heel), to make turns and circles, to reverse direction, to do a
sit-stay-recall, or to follow other basic obedience exercises.
