The 2008 “Mia” Award
The Mia Award is offered annually by the Hollowell Academy of Dog Training in memory of
Mia (My Pal “Miss Mia’s” Golden Mist), a Golden Retriever owned, trained, and loved by
Ashley Gross, a long-time student and friend of the Hollowell Dog Training family.
Recipients of this award will be young men or women between the ages of 12 and 18, who
best exemplify the spirit of good sportsmanship, volunteerism, humane awareness, and a
strong interest in the proper care and training of dogs. The Mia Award will be presented to
one person each year.
Nominations will be accepted for the award between the dates of May 1 and December 1
each year. Nominations may be made by obedience class instructors, veterinarians, 4-H
advisors and leaders, groomers, teachers, parents or other family members, Scout leaders,
or any other interested person. Nomination forms may be obtained from Hollowell Academy
of Dog Training by calling the training building at 419-339-3208 or from the Hollowell web
site – www.hollowellwhippets-dogtraining.com.
The recipient will be chosen by a committee designated by Diane Laratta, owner of
Hollowell Academy of Dog Training. The recipient’s name will be added to the “Mia Award”
plaque on display at the training building, 201 E. Kiracofe, Elida, Ohio. The recipient will
also be given an award to commemorate the win.
